Ghosts are recurring enemies from the Wonder Boy and Monster World series.

Appearances[]

Wonder Boy in Monster Land[]

Ghosts appear as enemies in two variants: Will-o'-Wisp (Eel Wisp) and Ghost. They roam back and forth and float down if Book is close to them. Will-o'-Wisps are worth 200 points. The blue ones are tougher than the red Will-o'-Wisps and worth 30,000 points. They are the enemies with the highest points in-game.

Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair[]

Ghosts only appear in the arcade version of the game. They fly to the left moving up and down to the screen.

Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap[]

Ghost reappear as Will o'Wisps in the game. They will swoop down to Book if he gets too close to them.

Wonder Boy in Monster World[]

The game has five types of enemy ghosts:

  • Ghost (ゴースト) appears in the forest.
  • Will-o'-the-wisp (ウィルオウィスプ) appears inside the forest's ruins.
  • Sorry Ghost (ゾーリーゴースト) is a polite ghost that appears inside the Pyramid and the Nightmare Castle.
  • Snow Ghost (スノーゴースト) is a ghost with a red hat and bowtie that appears in cold areas.
  • Fire Ghost (ファイヤーゴースト) is a fireball with eyes that appears in the volcano.

Monster World IV[]

They appear in Handera Volcano and are on fire. In Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World, two more variants are seen that replace the Cloud Gigas and Jellyfish.

Wonder Boy Returns[]

It appears in the game within the later worlds and moves in a wave pattern similar to the Bee.
