Monica's Gang (Turma da Mônica in Portuguese) is a popular Brazilian comic book franchise created by Mauricio de Sousa.

The series was originally based on a newspaper comic strip, launched by the newspaper Folha da Manhã in 1959. Over the years the series has been gaining a large audience, with new characters constantly being added to the lineup. Jimmy Five (Cebolinha) and Monica (Mônica) were eventually given their own comic books, hence the title "Monica's Gang." The characters and comics were eventually adapted into cartoons, video games, movies, theme parks and a wide range of products.

Wonder Boy and Monster World series[]

In Brazil, three games from the Wonder Boy series were adapted by TecToy into Monica's Gang games:

Original Monica's Gang Changes
Wonder Boy in Monster Land Mônica no Castelo do Dragão
("Monica in the Dragon's Castle")
Book is replaced by Monica, and instead of swords she uses her blue stuffed rabbit called Samson (Sansão). The story and several names were altered.
Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap Turma da Mônica em O Resgate
("Monica's Gang: The Rescue")
The main characters and some NPCs are replaced by Monica's Gang characters. The story was also changed.
Wonder Boy in Monster World Turma da Mônica na Terra dos Monstros
("Monica's Gang in the Land of Monsters")
The main character and some NPCs are replaced by Mônica's Gang characters. The story was also changed.

Comics[]

Mônica no Castelo do Dragão was adapted in the story Contra o Exercito do Capitão Feio (Monica Against the Terrible Army of Captain Fray) from Mônica #64 (1992). The story used to be available in English in the official site, but it is no longer available.

In a special edition of Turma da Mônica Jovem, Monica is captured by a mysterious villain that is erasing her memories. While recalling past stories, she enters in "Mônica e o Castelo do Dragão" ("Monica and the Dragon's Castle").

The dragon and two enemies from Mônica no Castelo do Dragão appeared in Gamebusters, a parody of Ghostbusters, as Gozer, Zuul, and Vinz.

Turma da Mônica em O Resgate is mentioned in Chico Bento Moço #12.
