Charm stone full

The Charm Stone, is an item from Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap and Wonder Boy in Monster World.

Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap[]

In the Master System and TurboGrafx-16 (Dragon's Curse) versions, each stone is worth one Charm Point, increasing the value as the player collects them. They can be obtained from enemies and in some treasure chests. Collecting 99 stones also activates secret doors all around the village, allowing the player to immediately fight any of the dragons.

The Charm Points were removed in the Game Gear version of the game, and the function of the stones was changed to act like a magic item, warping the player back to the Village when used.

In the 2017 Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, Charm Points and Charm Stones are mostly absent. Unlike the Game Gear version, which repurposed the stones, the remake removes them from regular gameplay entirely, replacing them with extra money bags in enemy drops or treasure chests. Only six Charm Stones exist, and each can only be obtained in a hidden area by one of the forms. Collecting four out of six stones will allow the player to buy the strongest sword and the only gated off item in the remake: the Gallic Sword. Collecting all six stones activates the secret doors in the village.

Charm Points[]

Charm Points (CP) are a gameplay element from the Master System and TurboGrafx-16 versions of the game. CP affects the player's charisma, determining which items can be bought in shops. Each form has a base CP, and the equipped armor affects the value. Charm Stones also add to the total value.

The highest CP that can be reached without the stones is 156, achieved by equipping the Legendary Armor and using the Tasmanian Sword to change into Hu-Man. All equipments become available in the shops with this setting, except for the Muramasa Blade, which requires CP 165 or higher.

Wonderboy in Monster World[]

Charmstones can be bought from a store in Purapril for 500,000 gold each, and they are the most expensive item in the game.

They can be traded with a man in a hidden room in Purapril in exchange for either extra hearts or extra magic points. If you only have one charmstone, he'll offer to trade it for an extra heart, and if you have two or more charmstones, he'll offer to trade two stones for extra magic points. You can repeat this until you have 14 hearts and 12 magic points for every spell (except Return, which does not go beyond one point), and maxing out your magic points will require a total of six charmstones to be traded.
